Population-based estimates of cancer survival (alongside incidence and mortality) provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of early-detection strategies and the quality of clinical care and management. Cancer survival is a key indicator of the effectiveness of cancer services and is a measure of prognosis that can reflect the prospects of clinical cure. SURVCAN and SURVMARK are international landmark projects in cancer survival, providing a comprehensive view of cancer survival in countries in transition and high-income countries, respectively. Together they will increase our understanding of the disparities in cancer survival and shed light on factors causing the observed variation.
